  dialogue box viewing problem

  Help! I can launch Indesign – but when I open a drop down menu and select an option requiring a dialogue box (eg open file) the dialogue box not appear on the screen and the workspace is frozen – the dialogue disappears – it seems as though it opens behind the workspace, but I cannot minimise the workspace, becauswe it is greyed, waiting for me to repond to the dialogue box.
  Does this make sense…. I am desperate – on deadline.
  I have re-installed the program, but the problem still exists – a setting probably needs to be adjusted but I don’t know what or how.
