  • DG FastTrack with Final Cut Pro – Possible?

Posted by David Green on September 7, 2010 at 6:37 am

    Hi all,

I’ve searched and searched through these forms and found questions similar but never this exact one.

Is there any way to get an MPEG-2 Program Stream with these settings for a DG FastTrack gig using only Final Cut Pro 7 and Compressor 3.5?

    Video: 18MB/s
    MPEG-2 Program Stream
    4:2:2
    9 frame GOP
    29.97fps
4*3 Aspect Ratio (If captioned the file needs to be
    720*486), 720*480 (recommended)
    Interlaced lower Field first
    Audio: MPEG-1 Layer 2
    2 Channels
    48KHz
    20bit
    384Kbps (recommended)

    Acceptable video and audio quality:

Average digital audio levels must range between –17dBfs

    and –20dBfs (Analog: 0dB @ +4dBm ref).

Digital audio levels should peak between –10dBfs and

–12dBfs (Analog: no higher than +3), with a maximum of

    three peaks per second.

Setup level should equal 7.5 IRE.

Luminance levels should not exceed 100 IRE.

Chroma levels should not exceed 120 IRE.

If I have to, I’ll spring for Episode. But even then, I have only found correct settings for a file with 720×512 aspect ratio, and not a 720×480 aspect ratio.

    Thanks,
    David

Any help would be much much much appreciated

    No with FC/Compressor.
The only 4.2.2 MPEG-2 you can make with FCS are IMX and XDCAM.
However, are you sure that they want “422”?
I think that the required data rate is too low for 422/Short GOPs (9 frames).
If was 420, yes you can do it.

    Hi David,
I’m afraid you will need something like Episode or so.
You may ask in the Compression Techniques Forum.

I use Episode with no problems… and our Dallas DG office requires an additional 16 lines of VBI in addition and that’s supported in Episode. They do indeed require 4:2:2.

If you have to, you can edit a preset to fit your needs, rename it and save for futures. There should be a “Program Streams” file inside of the Mpeg-2 preset folder.
