  • Device inputs for simultaneous REC multiple tracks

    Hi,
I would like to record audio from 3 microphones each connected to each of 3 different soundcards. I am using Vegas6a and I cannot find out how to assign the input of 1st soundcard to the audiotrack1, the input of the 2nd soundcard to audiotrack2 and so no. As reading the manual, it seems that I do not have the recording device selector button in my Vegas.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Vegas will only allow one sound card to be used at once. But you can record two tracks at once with a standard stereo sound card. It’s not like Cakewalk Sonar which allows multiple cards to be used at once. This is generally not practiced as it sometime can cause sync problems due to the differences in the cards. There are some inexpencive multi-channel cards available now days. Danny

    Hi Danny,
    Thank you for your message.
From the top of my head, would external audio mixer with firewire or USB connection help in achieving my goal: recording voice from 3 different microphones onto 3 different audio tracks?

    Cheers,
    Sareraka

Sareraka, an external audio mixer won’t help you either as, by it’s very nature, a mixer is designed to take multiple inputs (mic and/or line) and give you a single output of everything already mixed together.
As Danny suggested, what you need is a multi-input sound card.
Presonus, RME Audio and Echo Audio are manufacturers of cards that should fit your needs and are Vegas-friendly.
