  • Determining which disk in a Raid is bad?

    Posted by Steve Cohen on September 16, 2007 at 2:47 pm

    I have a Lacie Big Disk 500GB external drive and 1 of the drive is going bad.

    There is really nothing on there right now so losing the info is not an issue.

    I want to buy a 250GB drive and replace the failing drive.

    How can I determine which drive is the bad one?

    Thanks;

    If you are no longer concerned about losing the information on the drives, then format each drive individually rather than as a striped set and see which one fails to initialize. If they both initialize you might find that you have some other issue. BTW, if you have Disk Warrrior it may also help you in determining which of the single drives has issues once you format them as separate drives.

    Thanks David;

    That’s kind of what I was thinking, just wanted to see if there were other suggestions.

    Thanks again;
