Detelecine and interlacing problem
Hi.
What i have on my hands is NTSC Beta SP which was transferred from a
35mm negative > HD Cam SR 1080 24p > downconverted to NTSC Beta SP. At least this is what I’ve been told.
I have an identical problem with tape that was transferred to PAL before i got the NTSC version, question is, was this one also PAL?BSP interlacing seems to be on every frame i have tried to detelecine with compressor 4 and Jes deinterlacer, Jes returns cadence errors, handbrake’s deinterlacing doesn’t seem to change anything (FYI handbrake can now read ProRes files which is brilliant it may be in the nightly builds not sure about the last public release)
I tried reversing field order, progressive scan, capturing 24p NTSC to no avail.
Could this illustrious community have a look at this footage and help to get it back to 24p without deinterlacing. What causes such a pulldown?
The visible time code is obviously 24p from the HD Cam

My guess is that it has been standard converted to something,
as indeed (almost) every frame is interlaced. No way you can go back to 24 with this sample.But how come you have a beta SP and do a downconvert to 24 trough the HDcam?
This makes it close to impossible to guess what is going wrong where.
Can you provide a sample captured 29.97 from your source betaSP?Another question, are you going to deliver 24P?

HAHA Yes! it makes no sense! I also have to color correct and edit BSP footage, not the HDCam. Its Bass Ackwards
We are a stock footage house and people that provide us with footage sometimes make a mess of thingsThis is NTSC BSP sample, the time code was burned in from HDcam, so that we can track down the shot to HDCam master
In the perfect world i would have HDCam footage but as this is not my footage its another stock house, they do not want to pay for new transfer.
MY BSP is for preview purposes for my clients, so burned in time code is necessary.
Wanted get highest quality out of what i got, interlacing and higher frame rate doesn’t help.What i think has happened here is that there was PAL downconversion from HDCam, i know they did that once before and interlacing looked identical to this.
Would this even be possible to detelecine? i don’t see how, it bottles the mind 😉35mm negative > HD Cam SR 1080 24p > downconverted to PAL BSP > NTSC Beta SP
