    Hello all,

I’m trying to upscale several Red Scarlet 4K shots, anywhere from 10 to 50% in my edit.

I’m wondering: does using detail preserving upscale even matter for 4K footage I upscale like say 10%? In other words, is it beneficial to use no matter the percentage of upscaling? When does it start mattering for Red 4K footage?

More importantly, is the effect even good? Ha.

    Thanks.

This is an awfully subjective question.

Seriously, “good” is something only you will be able to determine.

Render a shot scaled 10% with regular scaling then render the same shot with the Detail-Preserving Upscale effect, slap them both in a composition and take a look. Turn the top one on and off and compare. Maybe even try the difference blending mode on the top one. See how much of a difference you notice.

Now try that at a much higher percentage of scaling and compare again.

I’m assuming he wants to upscale to reframe the shots. But like you said, it’s impossible to determine if there will be any quality loss without knowing what the final resolution will be.
