    Hi,
I’m on FCP 4 and the destination controls (little tabs on left of imeline that control which track is chosen as the source) are missing.

It’s a problem because when I have nested sequences, the destination controls must be set at the highest track containing audio. If not the audio playback is inconsistant and screwy.

Irritating enough, but now my destination control have disappeared and the manual never mentions anything like this.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Terry

Insert tracks until you see them again, then move them down to the lower levels.

I haven’t used FCP4 for a long time but the destination controls cannot disappear. You may not see them if they are off the bottom of the screen on, say, audio tracks 15 and 16. If your clip in the Viewer has no audio content, there are no audio destinations presented. Your other statement about bad playback is of far more interest.

I”m nut sure what CharlieX2 means by “insert tracks till you see them” but it sounds like an interesting thing to try.

You think the destination selectors are weird? Wait ill you get FCP4.5 and encounter the thrice-damned AutoSelect.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

This has happened to me too a couple of times for no apparent reason. There was clearly audio on the source (I can hear it in the viewer!) but the audio source indicators in the timeline are missing and even if I try to edit the clip -(video and audio) into the timeline- there is no audio clip – as if it didn’t exist. I ended up selecting the entire sequence (command+A) and copy and pasting the entire thing into a new sequence. The indicators reappeared in the new sequence. I still don’t know what caused the problem, but it’s a workaround in a pinch.

    Thanks everyobody for the suggestions.

In dealing with it, I found there to be little to fix it, other than simply restarting FCP, but it works. Then they’ll go away again, restart etc.

    Thanks
    Terry
