I have an HDV source, the Sony HDV deck, which goes to a Miranda bridge via firewire (4-6 pin). From the Miranda bridge, the SDI HD cable and RS-422 cable are plugged into the K3 Box, which is then going to the Kona card. I have deck control and can capture now fine, but as soon as I try to batch (I’m onlining a feature) the deck goes where it should and starts playing but then I get the following message: “Unable to lock deck servo. Tape possibly still threading.” while the deck is playing fine. Any ideas on how to remedy this?

I had the same problem and called Miranda. They said that the problem was probably due to the Kona 9 pin deck control and asked if I had a Keyspan USB serial adapter. Luckily, I had one from an older Avid system (which I coincidently sold for the Final Cut HD/Kona 3 system). I downloaded and installed the software drivers, plugged it in and set Final Cut to control the Miranda deck with the Keyspan instead of the Kona 9 pin cable. At this point, I was able to batch digitize just fine.

I was onlining a 1 hour 45 minute 6 camera concert, 2 of the cameras were HDV. Needless to say, there were plenty of HDV clips to be re-digitized. Everything worked fine, the only issue was that I had to keep an eye on the Miranda deck because it would need to be reset (power cycle) occasionally. Other than that it worked fine.

Sounds to me like a Miranda problem…

By the way, you could have saved half of you money by purchasing the AJA HD10A which converts you analog component video to HD-SDI and then you can use your firewire for machine control and audio. It’s much cheaper and works perfectly.
