Desperately looking for Pro Applications Update 2008‑04 / 05
Posted by Toby Tomkins on January 21, 2013 at 2:49 amHi,
I’m desperately looking for Pro Applications Update 2008‑04 (ProApplicationsUpdate2008-04.dmg) or Pro Applications Update 2008-05 (ProApplicationsUpdate2008-05.dmg).
I need them for Shake 4.1.1
Old school I know but I need it! (-;
Please PM me if you have it!
Thanks!
Toby

January 21, 2013 at 4:36 amHi,
Both are on the apple support site.
https://support.apple.com/downloads/Pro_Apps_Updates_2008_004https://support.apple.com/downloads/Pro_Apps_Updates_2008_005
Either will get you to 4.1.1
They only get you the last .1 rev. You already have to be at Shake 4.1 for them to work. If you bought an earlier version of Shake like 4.0, you’ll have to find the paid update to get to 4.1.
The only real thing the .1 final rev does is fix the render out noise bug. There is a workaround to get a noise free Prores file out if you’re in a bind and can’t get to 4.1.1.Scott Sheriff

That bug affected not just to Prores.
Any stuff with more than 8b got corrupted.[Scott Sheriff] “There is a workaround to get a noise free Prores file out if you’re in a bind and can’t get to 4.1.1.”
Just for the curiosity, can you explain it?
That bug drove me nuts for a couple of years.

That was a while back, and my memory might be somewhat fuzzy, but I’m pretty sure all of the non-QT format outputs still rendered out OK and the 10 bit bug was limited to QT formats.
Two-step output. Usually export image sequence, then converted that to PR422.
There were some other wonky things in 4.1, so 4.1.1, is definitely the way to go.Scott Sheriff

My bad, I tried the links, which worked, but I didn’t hit download since I already had these files on my HD. Now I see what the problem is. I know a friend of mine got 2008-04 from somewhere not that long ago. I wonder if the updates have been moved somewhere else, or if there is a mirror site somewhere hosting them?
Slightly OT.
Yet another thing where apple totally lacks any cred. Here they are, big promoters of ‘the cloud’, and they can’t bother to archive these tiny support files. It’s this type of thing that makes me distrust online archival, in favor of my local HD. At least if I lose the file on my end, I know who to blame.
I don’t see what the point of taking these files off the support site is. Is apple really that hard up for HD space? And if your going to take down the support files, why leave the info page and download link up?Scott Sheriff

January 22, 2013 at 1:50 pmAbsolutely agree with you Scott.
They are simply mean. What do they try, to save a couple of GBs on their system, or screw FCP users?[Dave Farrants] “I have 2008 – 1.2.3.4 & 5 on Dropbox at the moment as someone on another board wanted them and couldn’t get them from the Apple link, em or pm for download link.”
Good to know that, Dave, and thanks.
I keep in my HD the 2007/2008 PAUs.
The kids at Apple probably have free Internet access, but here I pay 3US$ per GB.
