Is there a plug in for Vegas that does desktop recording? I notice that Corel editor does have that feature. I’m trying to create how to videos for distribution to conservation groups.

No Vegas Pro is a video editor. I would recommend TechSmith Camtasia for doing desktop recording. It’s the industry standard. You can also use TechSmith Jing which is free. It doesn’t give you the excellent TechSmith codec but the price is right. 😉

Tanks for the advice, worked fine on my 32 bit machine but wouldn’t download to my 64 bit computer. Puzzled, I did the boring part and actually read the instructions, not for 64 bit OS.

[edgar gillham] “not for 64 bit OS.”

I’m sorry I don’t follow. What is not for 64 but OS? Camtasia or Jing? I use Camtasia all the time on my Windows 7 64 bit workstation. I’m not sure about Jing because I already use Camtasia but I can’t imagine that it doesn’t work in 64 bit.

I attempted to download Jing to my 64 bit machine and nothing happened. I thought it was probably a glitch and tried again, still no results. I went back to the site and did a print screen of the requirements, win 7 x 32 but do not know how to post the image here. I see there is a tutorial on that but I am quite busy at the moment. If you will provide an email address I will send it. thanks ed

Jing absolutely supports Windows 7 & 8 64-bit. I have it installed. Here is what the web site says about the requirements (there is nothing about needing 32-bit):

Here is how you upload a picture:

    Then do this:

BTW, TechSmith SnagIt also does screen capture to MP4.

Well here it is. I did check and the 32 bit requirement was not listed on all download sites except for the one I used. Obviously something else was happening since you have actually done it with 64 bit.

Here is a bit of advice… ONLY download software from the manufacturer’s site. Downloading from other sites is a quick way to get viruses and malware on your computer.

I gave you a link to Jing on Techsmith’s site in my post. Had you followed that link you would have not had any problems.
