Just wanted to run these specs by you all to get thoughts on whether they would work as a good, versatile editing set up for a smaller operation… I’ll be editing in Premiere CS3 with a lot of After Effects work and will be dealing with mostly HD footage (usually a mixture of DVCPRO HD and HDV).

    Computer:
    HP workstation xw8600
    two Intel Dual-Core Xeon x5260 / 3.33GHz
    8GB of RAM
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600
    two 500 GB internal SATA-300 7200rpm
Windows Vista Enterprise (don’t have much of a choice here)
    Already have the monitors

I’ve been working on a HP laptop (9440) which has been fine for short SD projects, but when we jumped into HD work, I seem to crash Premiere on a regular basis. Any info or thoughts would be great since editing with HD is pretty new for me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    sm

Instead of X52xx CPU’s, consider E54xx CPU’s, the Harpertown, preferably the E5472. Check that the mobo has the Intel 5400 chipset (Seaburg). Add some more disks to your system, get a good raid controller (Areca) and you should be fine.
