  • Desktop Cinema does not work with PCI card

So…I’m setting up a new FCP system for HDV home use and just came across my first stumbling block. I have a new 2.3ghz dual core G5 that comes standard with a PCI GeForce 6600. I also have a Dell 24″ monitor coming soon. I just found out that this card does not work with desktop cinema – I need an AGP card. So with a brand new G5 and the card it ships with, the latest FCP Studio, and a new Dell 24″ monitor I cant even see my timeline in desktop cinema mode…!

Does anyone think that this is something that a future update to FCP would address, or is it not even a FCP issue?

Aside from another card (I use a Kona2 at work and am very familiar with its advantages) is there anything I can do with one monitor to view my HDV footage in HD resolution? I was planning to but a second Dell and use it as a second monitor dedicated to “desktop cinema” but this seems fruitless now…

In the future I will probably get a Kona card and a true external monitor like the JVC CRT that is reviewed so well, but for now what is the best practice?

    Thx
