Desktop Breakthrough
Posted by Dave Edwards on July 25, 2010 at 8:08 amWhen previewing the desktop frequently breaks through on the monitor displaying the preview for a fraction of a second: it’s rather like camera flash. Has anyone else experienced this?

July 25, 2010 at 10:52 amI haven’t ever seen that. I would suspect a video card problem. Check that your drivers are up to date from the card’s manufacturer. This is one of the frustrations using Windows over the Mac, where drivers are much more stable because of the narrow range of hardware & OSs.

July 25, 2010 at 11:46 amThanks for that, Alf: I believe the drivers to be up-to-date.
In case this is significant I have four monitors driven by a pair of NVidia GeForce 8600GT cards. If I select a monitor for preview which normally shows the timeline then it is the timeline that breaks through.

July 25, 2010 at 12:28 pmI would try dropping some of the monitors and see if it goes away. I don’t have that problem with two monitors, for example. And run a simpler timeline just to isolate the issue, if possible. Anything change lately? Any new updates? Like new monitor drivers (G).

Up to date from where? I have had problems in the past with loading the latest drivers from the NVIDIA site. You should try the latest drivers from the video card manufacturer’s site because those are the latest ones that have actually been tested with your particular card.
