Power Mac 2013 running Mavericks 10.9.5. I have AVID Composer, Adobe Creative Suite, and Logic on it.

In my user file on my boot drive, a derby.log file started showing up recently. It’s size continues to grow until the OS warns me that my drive is nearly full. I have to reboot and delete the file… Only to have it reappear and start metastasizing again. Is this necessary to the OS? I suspect malware, but I cannot find anything online to even know what it is! It continues to show up even if I am not on the internet. HELP!!!

Apache Derby is an open source relational database. Did you install any software lately that might use a database? The problem with answering this question is that Derby is an “embedded” database so programs can include it without you having to know about it. I believe it only works with Java programs so the program would have to have been written in Java. Just think if you’ve installed any new software lately. That is probably the culprit.
