    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone uses “depth of field” plug-ins – and how successful the results are. I was hoping o shoot something soon – and rather than buy an adaptor for my camera for a different lens – I was wondering if I shot stuff where the depth of field is little although still payed attention to framing/foreground & background etc. what the results could be. Any suggestions/recommendations would be helpful.

    Best,

    Paul

I would think selective focus (a feature I’d love to see added to Color) is a pain to implement on moving shots. Static shots, sure – you can just mask a layer on top of itself, and for simple things Joes’ S Blurs can do the trick.

But there is no substitute for shooting with a lens setup that allows for shallow DOF.

Yes, there is a depth of field plugin on the market, you can choose from: person detector (male/female)-face detector or simply foreground detector. It detects your focus point, and the area that is slightly out of focus by measuring the sharpness of the edges. The object that you choose to be in focus will stay in focus, while you can choose the focus or blur amount of the other part of the image. When you are done, the plugin renders the entire movement of the object/person in focus. This plugin is a must have for everyone who has no camera adapter.
If you believe in manifesting your thoughts is simply the time between cause and effect, then do have patience because it will exist some day…

    Enjoy!

I assume this filter does not exist?

I’m trying to find a DOF solution for FCP too, but if you have After Effects, here is a good tutorial for creating DOF – https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/2d_depth_of_field/

Could be a bit painstaking to implement, but the results look good.

would you like to tell us the names of these plug-ins you speak of or are they secret?
