Dell Monitors will Mirror but not Extend via Daisy Chain / MST?
Hi Amazing Community!
I’ve got two Dell P2715Q’s and I’m trying to get them to daisy-chain, but I can only get them to MIRROR, not EXTEND my desktop.
I’m running a 2019 MacBook Pro
– going OUT TB3 to an OWT TB3 Hub
– then OUT its mDP – into Monitor 1’s mDP IN. This works fine.THEN I’m trying to daisy chain via:
– DP OUT on Monitor 1 to DP IN on Monitor 2.Monitor 2 seems to only mirror Monitor 1, and I can’t seem to tell the Mac they are different monitors. In the Display settings, the arrangement only shows my laptop screen and ONE external monitor.
It was mentioned in the another post on the DELL community to switch “MST to DisplayPort 1.2”, but these don’t seem to have a setting for that.
Settings for MST on the P2715Q are OFF, PRIMARY and SECONDARY. I’ve tried all configurations of these and any time I set to PRIMARY I get a weird flicker, and setting them to OFF or SECONDARY doesn’t seem to make any difference. There’s no setting on the monitor menu to indicate DisplayPort 1.2 or anything of that nature.
Is there anything I can do to resolve this that anyone’s heard of?

Have you tried contacting Dell support or asking in their user forums (if they have one)?

Yeah, I tried posting to the forums. Their tech support is rather opaque, and their Dell Community seems to be about the least participated tech forum I’ve ever seen for a company that size. I put up a post and didn’t get a single view in more than a week, so figured I’d try here! This community has always been so helpful with Adobe and Mac was hoping someone might have run into a similar problem at some point…

It’s also possible that the OWC Dock doesn’t support this dual monitor configuration so get in touch with OWC and see what they say. The solution would be to run one monitor off the Dock DP Port and the other off a TB-3 to DP/DVI or HDMI Dongle. It’s an extra expense but at least it will work.

YOu can’t do this through the OWC TB hub. It will support only ONE display output, thus why you can only mirror. For this to work you need to connect directly to the laptop.
I had this issue myself, and OWC mentioned that they only support one display output, not two.
