Delivering SD DVD from HD ProRes422 1440×1080 60i project – HELP!
Hey guys,
I’ve been a lurker here for a long time, but seldom post because I find the answers so quickly on Creative Cow! This time is a little different… I’ll try to be brief but thorough. I have a documentary/bio that was shot and edited using Canon HD cameras, edited in Final Cut Pro HD (latest rev) on a MacPro 8 core, 8 gigs of RAM. I need to produce the final delivered product to my client on SD DVD (ultimately on Blu-Ray).
The sequence is edited using ProRes422 codec and plays well on screen and on studio monitor. It’s in 1440×1080 60i, and I need to output to 16×9 anamorphic SD DVD (DVD Studio Pro).
I’ve tried to nest the sequence into an SD timeline, but I’m getting system crashes when I try to export it.
My questions are:
1. What sequence settings (compression, size, etc) should I use for the SD sequence that I’m dropping the nested footage into? I’ve edited using compression, so I thought uncompressed might be overkill or too large a file size. The crash I get says that the cause might be the “ProGraphics plug-in”. I have no idea what this is, and I can’t find anything that resembles this on the drive….thoughts?
2. Is it better to export a self-contained Quicktime file then rely on Compressor to do the conversion? I tried this and got less-than stellar results, especially producing interlaced images with line staggering. Also text and titles exported with lots of digital noise. It also took (are you ready for this?) 50 hours to complete! The project is an hour and 15 minutes long. Seems like an astounding amount of compression time to produce less-than-desirable results. What settings in the Quicktime Export are best?
I’ve read and tried most of the methods I’ve found online, including a few things in Ken Stone’s blog….my frustration level is rising, and I need to deliver this project. Soon!
Any help or advice would be great. Specs below:
