Deleting event FXs
Posted by Larry Brewer on July 9, 2011 at 4:15 pmIs there a shortcut to deleting all video FXs on multiple selected video events, on my Vegas 10 timeline?
I managed to copy and paste event attributes to and entire timeline of video events only to find one FX that I did not need in that set of attributes. Now I would like to remove it and only it from the group of events.
Yes, I know I can use edit “undo”, but that’s probably 20 steps back.
Thanks

July 9, 2011 at 9:09 pmThere is no function to do this in Vegas. You could remove the FX from one event and then Copy and “Paste Event Attributes” to the other events and it will remove that FX but it will also copy Pan/Crop and other settings so be careful with using that.
You could also create a Filter Package (which is an FX chain) the just contains the FX you want to keep. Then apply that filter package to all of the events and it will replace the current chain of FX.
Finally, you could use a productivity plug-in like Ultimate S Pro or Excalibur that adds these functions to Vegas Pro. I know Ultimate S Pro can remove specific FX’s from events.

I’ll read up on the filter package, not even familiar with that.
All good suggestions except the first one. The copy and past attributes function seems to work only when ADDING FX to multiple events.
example: If all events on a timeline have 3 FXs and the operator deletes 2 of these from a single event, then copies and and pastes the attributes of that event onto the remaining events, they will retain the orig 3 FXs and have another one added. Likewise, can’t copy the FX of an event that has no FX and expect it to clear the FX from other events when pasted.
And, of course the crop attributes get copied along with the everything else.
So I just restarted the project.
Thanks for the filter package suggestion.

You are correct. This only works if you are removing ALL FX from an event. At first I thought you wanted to remove all of the FX. Then I re-read the post and realized that you just want to remove one and forgot to alter my post. However…
If you copy from an event with no FX it will remove all FX from the pasted events. You actually could use this as a two step process to first remove all FX and then just paste back the ones you want.

No, you can’t even clear all the FXs on a group of events by copying the attributes of an event that has no FXs and pasting those attributes onto a group of events. You can only ADD FXs by this method, it never removes anything.
But what is even more frustrating is the result you get when you have two identical sets of FXs on two events and then you copy one onto the other and it doubles everything.
Or am I missing something?

Well… that’s not the behavior that I’m seeing. I tested this by adding some FX to a couple of events and then I copied from an event with no FX and it cleared the other FX when I pasted. This is with Vegas Pro 10.0e. I believe you if you say it doesn’t work for you. Maybe there are some circumstances when it doesn’t.

Hmmm… I guess paste is paste and cut is cut and if you paste twice you get 2 with no cuts. 😉 lol… actually I agree with you that’s it seems like inconsistent behavior but it sets the parameters where there is only one setting and it adds to the parameters that can have multiple and FX’s can have multiple FX. So I guess it makes some sense. Perhaps paste should have a pop-up that asks if you want to add or replace. You could always make a feature request on the Sony Suggestion Page.

John,
I think you’ll find this interesting.
I currently have 2 PCs running Vegas 10. One running 10e and one running 10d. The 10d software behaves differently regarding PASTE ATTRIBUTES. My 10d software absolutely WILL NOT remove FXs from an event when you paste attributes from an event with no FXs, while the 10e does clear FXs when paste attributes are applied.
This seems constant regardless of which FXs I have applied. They can be removed on my Vegas 10e but not on my Vegas 10d.
I will update my 10d editor to 10e after I finish my current project. The paste attributes trick will be the first thing I try after I update.
I am pretty certain the behavior of 10d is consistent with all earlier versions of Vegas where I have tried to clear FXs using the PASTE ATTRIBUTES method.
I’m not ready to say 10e corrected the paste attributes issue other than to say I have one PC where it did. There my be other variables, but right now I can’t think of any that would explain this.
The ADD or REPLACE option on paste attributes would be a very nice feature on future Vegas releases. Also, an option to paste attributes without PAN/CROP settings would just make so much sense I can’t believe they haven’t thought of it. The current method of pasting attributes, all or nothing, is the easiest way to screw-up multiple events without knowledge of the operator until it’s too late to use UNDO. It has caused me more headaches than any other Vegas feature.
Thanks for taking an interest in this.

March 14, 2014 at 4:58 pmafter googling and finding this post and about a billon others, I think I finally have a workaround. And I’m new at this… so it’s a proud moment to help. I think. Don’t send me a million messages about fixing other things…I don’t know probably…
if you guys are still interested… here we go…
Sony Vegas Pro 12
First make a duplicate track to mess with. 🙂
On a small clip open FX and make it the way you want it.
In ur Video Event FX screen (should be same screen you just used)3rd line down where is says default, click and type in a name for your fx. Hit the disk icon right beside it to the right. (save)
Do this for as many fx as you want. save em all.
Click the FX green plug in chain icon right above the save disk icon
Plug in chooser video event fx window opens
Click Save As…
Name it something similar for that video.
You now have a plug in package! Now the fun part…
Select all clips in a specific track..
—-click on the first clip, then shift click the last clip. use the scroller on your mouse if you need to.All the tracks clips should now be selected
On the last clip you selected right click the little green plug in chain FX icon right beside the pan crop one.
Delete all.
Relax. this is a working track because we made a duplicate. 😉
On the far left of the track, where you rename it etc…there’s another FX icon. Click it.
Click Filter Packages
Your plug in chain is right there!
Double click. Then OK.
Whammo.

March 14, 2014 at 6:20 pmOk guys. UPDATE.
Some GOD out there created Timeline Tools.
Heres the link to it’s info page:
https://www.nfatoys.com/moasoftwarellc/TLT_Guide.htm#Vegas_PlugIns
Here’s where you get it:
https://www.nfatoys.com/moasoftwarellc/
Close Vegas
Download
Install
Open Vegas
View/Extentions/Timeline Tools
3rd tab over…Markers, Regions, FX
on top left select your video track
2 boxes lower click remove video fx
In that same area to the right click select all track events
Apply changesBoom.
Then go shove the FX chain you made over on the track section as posted in my previous post. Now you can even bypass with a click.
Hope I helped someone
