  • Deleting Duplicate Media Files

I’m the Lead AE on a long running show and have run into a problem. After years and years and episodes and episodes, editors keep importing the same music files over and over. Our music library has basically been imported into Avid multiple times, taking up valuable drive space.

If I go into Media Tool and mount our Music ISIS Drive, I can see the same song 3 or 4 times in a row. If I delete the media from one of them, and then relink to the drive, it relinks to the remaining media just fine. So Avid can see these are the same file.

Is there a way to easily find the duplicates and delete them, just leaving 1 copy of the media files?

I know MDV has a button for Detect Duplicates, but I try it and get no results.

Right now I’m looking at trudging my way through the list of all the songs in MediaTool, so an easier way would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

You have several software to remove media files.

In your case, I would recommend Duplicate Media Finder.

It is a dedicated tool to find and remove exact or similar photos, music or movies. It can leave 1 copy of the media files.
    It’s just what you need!
