My project has 27 video and audio tracks and rather a lot of blank space at the beginning (3 minutes). Is there some way I can shorten this time down to 10 seconds either in vegas or architect?

select all the events, group them (g key), grab the first one and slide it down the timeline to where you want it.

What I do is this-take the track that has the SHORTEST amount of open time at the beginning and double click in that area. You will form a region. Hit CNTRL X then F that will RIPPLE all the track toward the beginning of the timeline. If you need more removed go to the next track that has the SHORTEST amount of open time and repeat-

WHY the SHORTEST you ask. Good question. Here’s why.
If you try to get it all at once and the beginning of the events start at slightly differnt times if you just pick th elongest open time when you delete the time you will also delete some of the heads of the clips and we don’t want that now do we? 😉

It seems a bit awkward but the reason I do it this way is to have comeplete control over what is done and how much time I remove especially on a bigger project. I’d hate to have to pull th eevents over 1 track at a time.

Beware though – using F as ripple affects only that particular track, which will put things on other tracks out of synch.

If you either delete the opening “space” as Don described, or drag the very earliest event to where you want it to begin, Ctrl/Shift F will move EVERYTHING on all tracks, including markers and regions, back the same amount, keeping everything in synch.

The only other thing to watch out for is to make sure you don’t have any events locked – if you do, they will stay where they are whilst everything else moves, so they will then be “out of position” relative to the rest of the project.

how is that different from double clicking that shortest space and simply pushing Delete?

    just curious

it really isn’t except for the fact that it gives me another few seconds to look at it and make sure it’s what I want to do.
They both do the same thing.
