  • Deinterlacing options: using Motion?

    Hi all:

I’ve read several threads here about how to best deinterlace footage, what are the best plugins (FieldsKit, Magic Bullet, Nattress Film Effects, etc.)… and I’d like to ask about another option that I’ve been testing: use Motion’s deinterlace filter, with the “Blend” option (which, according to the manual, doesn’t just throw away a field, but averages it with the near ones, which is precisely what a good deinterlace filter is supposed to do).

I’ve been doing some quick tests with it and, IMO, it looks better than the “deinterlace using Compressor” method, which I’ve also seen recommended here, but I can’t compare it with the other specialized filters because I don’t have them, so: what are people’s opinions? Would FieldsKit or Nattress look significantly better than the Motion filter?

And another question, since my company is considering buying BCC5 and I’ve also seen BCC4’s deinterlace filter highly recommended here. Have people tried BCC5’s deinterlace already? Is it still as good as it was, or did they mess it up somehow in the new version? (Strange, I know, but I’ve seen stranger things happen).

    Paulo.

I find fields kit to do a really really nice job, but I have never tried Motion.

Fields kit is cheap too and you can download a watermarked demo. It gives you the most controllable options for deinterlacing.

Nattress deinterlacers also give you smart blend options. I haven’t use Motion but the Nattress filters have given me excellent results and it saves a round trip to Motion

I haven’t tried Motion, but my favorite is by JES Deinterlace. It costs $0.00.
