    hey guys,

    quick question.

i noticed when i click on “deinterlace” when im encoding on adobe media, i get rid of “lines” throughout the film when it would cut from one shot to another.

i wanted to know what exactly is “interlace” ??

also, i have checkmarked “allowed interlace” when i encode, but i also have checkedmarked “deinterlace” on the output on the upper left.

can i uncheck “interlace” on the video settings and just leave it at “deinterlace” on the output? i don’t want to mess around with it because so far it works, i was just curious if they balance each other out if they are both checkmarked, etc…

would be cool to know exactly what they mean, thanks guys!

    vin.

A frame of interlaced video consists of 2 fields, upper and lower. The frame of DV is built starting at the top with one thin line of the lower field, then a thin line of the upper field and on and on for the 1/30th of a second and then the next frame is built. The purpose is to fool the viewers eye into seeing smooth motion. Only TVs display fields as they were designed. PC monitors show the jagged edges you see.
The “Allow Interlaced processing” option is only available for Windows Media Video and is off by default. There are/were a few DVD players that could play WMV to a TV.
Deinterlacing involves removing one field and duplicating the other. This effectively reduces the vertical resolution by half, but is necessary to remove the jaggies if your video has motion/camera panning or transitions.

    interesting…

i did notice when i would use wmv encoding it would appear but not in mpeg2-dvd…

so when im encoding it on wmv, should i not have both “allowed interlaced” checked and “deinterlaced” checked at the same time but only “deinterlaced?” what do you recommend? i have kept it like that because it’s been working for me as a .wmv

    thanks mike,

    vin.

For WMV, do not select “Allow Interlaced” and do select Deinterlace.
