Anybody out there got a step by step method for handling picture from Beta and sound from DAT that needs to be sunc by clapper?

Should media be captured as whole tapes and split up later or logged and captured as individual master clips?

I need to have merged clips that retain the separate timecode for both picture and audio so that accurate EDL’s can be made in the end. I’m able to make a sequence that contains sunc picture and sound but when this is edited in to another sequence the timecode does not refer back to the original media any more because of the nested way the FCP works.

Anyone who has used Media-Composer’s Auto-Sync function will know what I mean.

My current method takes ages and is prone to mistakes.
