  • Default Texture size?

    Cow,

Just wondering if anyone knows what the default texture size is of the built-in materials in C4D. ( ie tiles, checkerboard etc…) Or if there even is one?

I’ve added the “tiles” surface texture to my object and adjusted it to fit the way I like it.

I’m attempting to make a similar tiled texture in photoshop and swap it out for the original.

Just wondering what size to make the texture so it fits exactly like the original.

    Thanks in advance

Those textures are procedural. Texture size will depend on how close the object is to the camera. I’d start with 1000×1000 then experiment with the UV mapping to size it properly.

Thank you very much for your reply Cory I’ll try it out. I’m not actually camera mapping. Im using “cubic” projection. Does change things or am I totally off target? 😉
    Thanks again

No, it doesn’t change anything. As Cory said, these shaders are procedural, meaning that they’re mathematically derived. Think of them like vector graphics.

Camera mapping isn’t what I’m talking about.

If you have a 500×500 texture, it might look ok if the camera is far away from the object. If it’s near it, the texture might look like Wolfenstein 3D. Thus if the camera never gets close to the objects, smaller resolutions will suffice. The objects that get close to the camera will need higher resolution textures, or procedural (vector) textures.
