default storage
I want to reduce the load on my hard drive by putting downloaded files from say my DVD player/ recorder into an external hard drive. As it is connected by usb no doubt it will be slower but I’ve got more time than money. Is there a place in preferences or where ever to make a default location other than the place sony picked for the default location?

No, there isn’t (at least that I’m aware of).
This solution wouldn’t work either unless you permanently assign a drive letter to your external drive because it *could* change each time you plug it in depending on how many other devices you have connected to your computer at the time.
