  • Default settings?

Posted by Morten Friis on April 11, 2006 at 1:24 pm

Let me admit… am not so familiar with Vegas, but I have some wishes for default settings:

In ‘pan and crop’ I always(98%) put the ‘smoothnes’ to zero, because that works best with the stuff I’m doing.

And because I use a lot of still-pictures I always check/mark the “reduce interlace flicker” in properties.

Could these settings, and others who are not obviously seen in preferences, be made default. (if that’s the way to say it – not my mothers tongue)

… and thanks for a perfect and vivid forum. Morten

For photos, I animate them automatically using the Video Scrapbook tool in Excalibur which can also turn on the “Reduce Interlace Flicker” flag. It also has a tool to reset all keyframes to “zero” smoothness.

I know of no way of making them the “default” values, though.

There are many reasons for not making certain settings “defaultable” in Vegas.

Adjust your workflow to accomodate these items and one way would be to write a small script to do this functionality for you when required or alternatively, use one of the great many add-ons to Vegas like Excalibur. I would probably be taking ten times longer if it were not for the automation it provides.

If you are going to run with Excalibur, I’d try and master its many features first. This will probably help you a long way into the editing workflow and getting to know Vegas pretty good.

Yeah well – sometimes we forget the obvious and make the same mistake we all tend to make too often sometimes – WE ASSUME.

    Thanks Edward

Lets not forget Ultimate S. I use both Excaliber and US and find them both very useful (with a little bit of overlap)

I have both tools as well and agree with Terry.

While we’re on the subject, I’d have to say that, 3D plugin Pak and SpiceMaster are indispensable tools for Vegas! 3D being free and SpiceMaster a bit pricey, but well worth the investment.
