    Hi,
I have to work soon on a project all HD based. We looking for a facility with HD I/O and possible basic fx handling (color correction, fade I/O, cross dissolve etc…)
For the moment a friend of mine own a declink extreme SD. I would like to know if there is a way to : capture HD via firewire, playback with extreme SD and output via firewire to keep HD size?
I guess Im asking a stupid question and i already know the answer but let push the chance and ask: is it possible to work all HD with the black magic SD card (fx handling).

If not I have to find a place where I can get the complete HD set. (should be fine but those guys just after money)

    thanks

The answer is yes. An Extreme card will output HD in realtime to a SD display via component or SDI out. I’m working on a project like that now, but mine is DVCPro100 telecined at 24p. I am having some difficulty with FCP crashing as it seems the Extreme card is working very hard to scale the DVCPro100 and display 24p at 29.97. The fellows at Blackmagic are looking into it. If your project is 29.97 video you should be okay.

It might depend on other aspects of the system, for example storage speed. The Decklink card can certainly do the monitoring, but the rest of the system may not be up to the task.

    Thanks guys,

The disk array is SCSI 800Gig , 100mb/s
The project will be 1080i50 or i hope 25p.
I didn’t experience 24p yet so I’m not sure if its worth it to shoot 24p and convert to 25p.
Good to know that the card could output HD to monitoring. I guess output HD to HD tape is impossible.

I found an other solution: rental of an system equiped with Kona3 so uncompress HD I/O possible.

    thanks for your help guys
