  • Decklink SP causing dark PC monitors?

Hello all; I just installed a Decklink SP PCIe the other day and have the latest driver available on the BMD site. I’m running XP SP 3 with dual monitors. Ever since I installed the Decklink it has caused my PC monitors to be dark. I noticed as the pc is booting several seconds after the windows screen appears, both monitors drop a few shades. It is especially noticeable whenever I am looking at video, on everything from windows media, QuickTime, even Vegas 8. I’ve been researching this and have so far not found any answers. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi Chuck

For your Decklink card, do you have the Extended desktop feature enabled, effectively allowing you up to 3 monitors.

If you go to Control Panel>Decklink, and at the bottom there is an option saying “When not playing video send: extended desktop.” If this is set, switch it to send “black.”

Does this improve the problem with your Dual monitors at all? We may need to know a bit more about the system you are using, in particular your graphics adapter and display driver.

Thanks for the response Callum, I spent the weekend “Working the problem” and I think ultimately an updated driver for my Nvidia graphics card is what solved the issue, although it’s possible all of the different programs (Vegas, Adobe, Blackmagic, & Nvidia) fighting for control of my desktop settings may have been the culprit. Other than that Hiccup, I love having the Decklink SP card!

    Hi Chuck

That’s great news! I thought it might be something to do with the graphics drivers, which disabling extended desktop can sometimes help (one less thing to fight for the desktop display! 🙂 )

I hope you keep enjoying your Decklink SP!
