Decklink SDI in a vfx environment
Hello everybody. I am about to buy a Decklink SDI but figured i would ask your opinion first.
I run a small visual effects shop. We never capture or output to tape. We are being approached by a client with an HDcam tape of footage. Instead of sending the EDL to a house to do the capturing for us, i figured i would buy a Deklink SDI, rent a deck and capture from the edl myself. Meaning at the end of the process i end up with a card from which i can output 10 bit SDI to a broadcast monitor for my color correction needs.
How would you rate this choice (decklink SDI) for this kind of work (99% color monitoring 1% capture/output to tape) ?

What kind of application are you using for your color correction? If you want to preview your changes while doing them the application has to be supported from the card’s drivers. Other than that it sounds like a good choice.

after effects, shake, framecycler and/or color. So mostly supported.
I was mainly wondering about the capture situation, how solid it is etc, as i haven’t had to deal with that in many years.
