I’ve read some older posts on this forum about Protools users happily monitoring their QT reference movies over Blackmagic Decklink cards. We’ve been using BMD in our Final Cut editing bays for quite some time, and we are looking to enhance six combined Final Cut and Protools suites with SDI and Component I/O capabilities. These have been pure DV with Digirack 002 and Canopus ADC110 for video monitoring.

We would like to ditch the Canopus solution and run both FCP and PT video over BMD cards. If anyone has any related experience, it would be much appreciated if you could share it with me. Would it work at all? Are working solutions to this locked to any particular combination of OS, driver and PT versions? Would we be constrained to any particular codecs, like 8-bit Uncompressed?

Our workstaions are dual G5 2GHz with 1 GB RAM. Four of which are currently running OSX 10.3.9, PT LE 6.9.2 and FCP 5.0.4, but will probably be upgraded to 10.4.x and PT LE 7.2. The other two are on OSX 10.4.x and PT HD 7.2.

I have cards, time and the inclination to do some testing on my own, but any advice to get me started would be much appreciated.

    cheers,
