  • Decklink HD – Problem Import AVI into FInal Cut or export to QT from XP?

Have a problem running on both platforms –

    * Export from a 10bit timeline into Premiere to a quicktime file of the same specs results in ‘Unknown Error’ at the last second of the timeline. I can export parts within – no trouble (so it seems). But a full 2 hr export equals that error at the end.

    and …

    * I can’t get final cut to read my Blackmagic AVI files. Is this a normal cross platform problem? I get ‘codec error’ – can still hear the audio, justno video shows up on screen. My hope was if A didn’t work – then try to export a quicktime on the mac.

Upgraded to the newest drivers (and tried theold drivers) – same results. This is a MacPro FinalCut / XP Premiere 2.0 issue.

    any help appreciated!

    Update …

After upgrading quicktime, various drivers and the blackmagic drivers I still get

‘Error Compiling Movie – Unknown Error’

At the last frame, last second – so instead of it just being done, it deletes the work and errors.

    Hi,

I’m not sure why Premiere is encountering an error exporting to a QuickTime 10-bit file and I haven’t heard of other reports in this forum. Is the AVI file that you are attempting to use in Final Cut Pro an 8 or 10-bit file? While Final Cut Pro will open an 8 or 10-bit QuickTime file which has been created on a Windows PC, it will only open 10-bit AVI files and not 8-bit AVI files due to cross-platform technicalities. So please make sure you are testing with a 10-bit AVI file.

Finally, if you a desperate for a quick solution, you could simply play out of Premiere and the DeckLink HD card and recapture the HD-SDI output in to Final Cut Pro with a DeckLink HD card. There will be no loss of quality as it will all happen with uncompressed HD-SDI video so the result will be perfect. This is not a solution to the above problems but you might find it to be a good, temporary workaround.

‘Error Compiling Movie – Unknown Error’

I get this message often when I am editing HDV using the BMD Mjpeg codec and just rendering. I have discovered it is a memory leak problem and a simple save>close premiere>restart will allow me to continue the render. It is also exacerbated if there are many stills and certainly titler use.

BTW I am talking about a Multibridge extreme on a Tyan Thunder K8WE 2 x dual core 275 opteron and Quadro FX540 PCI Express with and an Areca RC1220 8 Port SATA Raid card driving 8 x 300g drives; so the grunt is there!
