I have a Decklink HD Pro (Dual Channel) card installed in my Dual 1.8 GHZ G5, Which is getting a little long in the tooth frankly. I am considering upgrading to a G5 Quad 2.5.
The question is: will my Decklink Card work in the newer machine? What speed will I get out of it and which slot should I put it in??

    Thanks

Not, Decklink HD Pro is PCI-X form factor. BUT new Quard G5 have PCI-Express buses only. You need wait for Decklink HD Pro PCI-Express. Or You can read topics about PCI-Express to PCI-X. It somewhere here . . .

Thanks- and I got a response from BM tonight, which has confirmed my fears. It won’t work. Since I just got this Deckink card, upgrading it doesn’t feel right, I didnt forsee this one as I wasn’t planning a CPU upgrade this soon, too bad BM doesnt have an upgrade program…

So no new Mac for me, not for a while anyway.
Bad news for the Studio, good news for the wallet.

(dreams of Quad G5 fading away…)

You could upgrade to a Dual 2.3 G5, save money over the Quad, get some more use from the BMD card and get a big performance boost on your current system.

That way you’ll also get to wait out Apple’s next move to Mactels…

    My 2c.

Thanks for the weigh in. But I’m not convinced i can wait long enough for the software to catch up to the “MacTel” chipset. I dont think that it will be less than a year for the apps I use to be natively fast in the Mactel environment. And i must say, if I do upgrade, I don’t believe in half measures, its costly and it’s a hassle, and i go as far up as I can, to avoid doing it more than every three years.
