    Hi all,
I was wondering if anybody could tell does the Decklink HD Extreme downconvert from HD to SD in realtime? I’ve looked around but can’t find this info.

    cheers,

    Joe

    Hi,

Yes, the DeckLink HD Extreme will downconvert from HD to SD using software down conversion.

1080i50 will down convert to PAL.
1080i59.94 will down convert to NTSC.
1080p23.98 down converts to NTSC if it is played out with 3:2 pulldown as 1080i59.94.
    720p59.94 down converts to NTSC.

    regards

    Hi Kristian,

Thanks for the info. You wrote that it’s done using software down conversion…does that means it needs to be rendered and thus not realtime?

    cheers,

    Joe

Oh it’s realtime… But here’s the lowdown: it’s not very good. Rather soft image – and only the anamorphic setting looks ok, the letterbox is terrible.

However, it’s a great timesaver if you need a quick SD dub make from HD. And it totally works without hassles or hiccups.
