  Decklink HD DL Random Black Frames On Playout

  Hi all,

  We are recently experiencing random dropped or black frames (video and audio) on output from a previously working system (see below for specs). We are inputting/outputting NTSC SD 10bit UC. The sync to the machine and decks is good. Happens on edit to tape and print to tape w/o machine control. Edit to tape problems happen on A500 DBC, BVW75 BSP and DSR 2000 DVCAM decks. This only happens on longer (ie: 5+ minute) playouts. I found an older thread about this with no apparent resolution:

  Again, this system was working a week ago and has had no software updates, etc. and sync hasn’t changed. Any ideas? Could the card be failing? Files captured with it seem to be okay no matter what the length. I suspected sync, but sync to the system measured using scopes are in perfect unison with house sync. Would updating the drivers help? I plan to do so anyway, but until I think I know what might have caused this, I am reluctant to do something that might further erode the system even though it might just fix it! 🙂 I really want to understand what’s happened. Computer and video output is otherwise stable/normal. I am not convinced this is a software thing, so I am trying to avoid my knee-jerk temptation to wipe the system drive and reinstall everything from scratch! Has anyone seen this?

  Maybe related: This system also has also developed a intermittent loss of machine control that is only resolved by shutting down the machine and rebooting (a restart alone without shutdown will not fix it). This issue happens once a day or so (we capture/playout with this particular system a lot) and may happen after many cycles of capture/playout or may happen on the 2nd try of the day. FCP acts as if there is no deck connected. Just occured to me to try BM Deck Control the next time this happens… This problem has been happening for a little while longer than the black frame thing, so I’m wondering if they could be related?
