Decklink for Dummies
Ok, so here is my question. I’m running Vegas 6d, and have been with Vegas, since version 4. I am running a Dula core 4400+, with 2 gigs of ram. A raptor 10,000 rpm as the main drive, and a 320gig for video storage. I have no clue what a Decklink card does for Vegas, but I know that it can be used as a second monitor out. Anyone have a link or some info that would tell me what one of these cards does, and what it could do for me? I’ve been using the Windows second monitor as my video preview, but have not been super happy with it. I am just trying to gather information to make a wise decision.

Right now 100% DV, but making room for HD. I have my eye on the new Panasonic, (as we all do). Can the Decklink do anything for me? What do you use as your preview monitor?

1st please exclude me from that “as we all do” ..
2nd the decklink for DV and the panasonic HVX does almost nothing for you!! save your $$$ … unless you want to capture SD & HD thru the decklink and end up with HUGE files ( raid needed on HD) = net result from tape/P2 = just a bigger file – those same files can be capture over 1394 …
decklink does make a box for previewing only and that may help on previewing HD out to a 1920×1080 monitor …
