This has just recently started happening.
After my computer… (G5 dual 2G) has been sitting idol for a while and even sometimes on the initial startup the Decklink outputs a green sparkly screen, and no audio. Even the timeline in FCP HD won’t playback properly. only goes in fast motion and drops frames etc,
Most of the time when I restart the computer it comes back and works fine as long as I keep working. Once the screen saver pops up it’s a 50/50 chance I’ll have to restart the computer again to get my decklink to output.
    Any suggestions.
    thanks

ps All of our edit suites have decklink products and I’ve never seen this happen before.

    Hi Beak,

That does sound very weird. You mentioned you have other DeckLink cards. Would it be possible to take out the suspect DeckLink card and try one of the other cards that you have. If the problem no longer occurs, then it would appear that the card is faulty and we should be able to repair or replace it via your reseller. If the substitute card shows the same problems, then either the Mac itself has a problem or, more likely, you have a software problem.

If you have recently updated some of your software, as many people have done with Tiger, FCP5 and DeckLink5, then it might be worth uninstalling the DeckLink drivers, reinstalling Final Cut Pro plus updates and then reinstalling the DeckLink drivers as the last step.

Good luck and please let us know how you go.

    Thanks Luke,
I was thinking of just re-seating the card first and if the problem still exist then I’ll swap it out with one of my other systems. (they’re not “extreme”) shouldn’t matter though.
Anyway, I haven’t done any updating in several months but I do have the latest software (FCP 5, Tiger)sitting on my shelf.
Just waiting to complete a couple of projects first, plus I wanted to address this issue as well.
I’m hoping its a simple fix.
    I’ll keep you posted.
    Thanks

ps. I still love decklink products…. awesome

    Hi Beak,

Reseating is definitely a good idea although I would think that shouldn’t be necessary unless the Mac was bumped. You might also disconnect the breakout cable and then firmly reattach it.

Given you haven’t done any software updates in some months, I agree that you shouldn’t change the software at all until this problem is overcome.

I think that testing with one of the other cards will quickly provide you with an answer as to whether the current card is malfunctioning. That is my suspicion at the moment so it will be great to hear the results of your testing when you get a chance.

This happens to me as well, with the same setup. I’ve found that going into the preferences and switching inputs from/to analogue/digital back and forth “awakens” the card. Don’t know why, but it does. Restarting does work to, but takes a wee bit longer.
