Decklink Driver 6.4 destroyed my Video Out Preview
Hi,
I own a BMD Decklink Pro & CS 2 Production Premium on Windows XP SP2 all updates.
This system worked perfect for long time with driver version 5.7.3
Then I updated to Driver Version 6.4 yesterday. (uninstalled the 5.7.3 driver first…)with driver 6.4 I had strange problems:
In AfterEffects 7.0.1 CS2 -> Preferences -> Video Preview I got the option to choose between “BMD Video Output” & “BMD Video Output 2” but I only have one Output for preview on my hardware!
One Output simply was dead one Output worked.
In PremierePro 2.0 CS2 the “export to Tape” command is not frame accurate!!! I have had this problem in earlier driver versions!
I play out my final work as a master to Sony DVW-A500P digital Betacam! and with the same settings like in driver 5.7.3 and it is not frame accurate with driver 6.4!!!So after all these Troubles I decided to switch bach to driver 5.7.3 which worked great for me for a long time.
Now with in the past my good working 5.7.3 driver the real Problem came up:
I noticed some color banding effects on my Video Preview Monitor (Sony BVM-14F5E) out of AfterEffects. this is best seen with a simple top to bottom color gradient from black to white.I switched from 8bit to 16bit per channel color resolution in AfterEffects but that doesn’t helped to eleminate the color banding effect on my monitor. (but that should have helped!)
I checked my monitor with a different signal and the monitor is ok!
then I rendered out the gradient to a photoshop file and imported it into premiere to check the video preview output of premiere and it looks the same with a really bad color banding effect!
And now the strange thing came up:
I hit the play button in Premiere to play the timeline with the photoshop file (the gradient) in it and while playing the timeline the video output on my external monitor switches from the bad looking color banding effect to a perfect and nice looking gradient without a color banding effect!!!
But when I pause it the banding effect returns!!!Additionally I noticed that in pause the picture has a green tint overall in play there is no green tint.
So please BMD Team I work now for over 3 years with your hardware and I always have had problems with new driveres. Thats why I always be very careful with your new drivers and most of the time there has only be one driver for me which do the “export to tape” command with frame accuracy!
After such a long time developing drivers why do you change so much in the drivers? Why don’t you leave things that work like they are ??? Why don’t you make one driver for vista and one for XP and one for Adobe CS2 and one for CS3 instead of putting all in one driver. I gess 6.4 work fine with CS3 and Vista but it does not with CS2 and XP.
And for me it seems that the 6.4 Driver has changed something important because after switching back to driver 5.7.3 I have the ugly color banding effect and now I don’t know how to do quality work with my system. Please help me out with my problem
