  • Decklink Card and 9 pin deck control, What cable?

Posted by Warren Eig on November 7, 2005 at 8:11 pm

I have a standard Decklink card. There is a 9 pin port for deck control. I need to replace this cable. Is it a standard 9 pin to 9 pin cable or is it a special crossover cable? In other words, if I go to Fry’s and buy a standard 9 pin to 9 pin cable, will it work?

    TIA,

    Warren

I went to my local Fry’s and they don’t carry this– only male to female. Any ideas where I can get a Its a standard 9 pin M/M cable?

    TIA

consider it your DIY project 😉

otherwise you can buy from canare or sony dealers (but you will have to spend loads of $ for that)

Or, check with your local production houses and TV stations. We have some just lying in boxes in the storeroom and I’m sure I’m not alone on this one. When we sell off our old analog decks, the cables usually stay behind.

    Hi,

It’s DB9 male to male straight (not mirrored, not crossed).
    Pin 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2, ….. pin 9 to pin 9.

Some sell them as ‘special’ RS422 cables asking loads of dollars for it, but many sell them simply as serial cable and only for a few dollars. I never experienced any trouble using them, even when using them for longer distances.

Use Google and search for ‘DB9 male-male cable’ or something like that and you will find tens, no hundreds of companies all selling the same stuff.

    Hope this helps,

Fry’s sells gender changers. It will work fine.

    Hi –
this is the straight answer. This is a very easy cable to get.
Don’t you guys “live” in the professional video business ?

If you are in LA, you can get it at Pacific Radio on LaBrea
On line, you can get it from http://www.markertek.com, or http://www.milestek.com
There are hundreds of cable companies on line, like Cables To Go that sell
    this cable.

You can also get these cables from Pipeline Digital, and http://www.addenda.com

These are all industry standard companies, where you get parts from for our business.
Even if you are an IT guy, most computer supply mail order catalogs have 9 pin Male D to 9 pin male D connectors.

If you ever bought a new Sony VTR, it comes with a 9 pin male to male cable.

Just to let you know that your cable went out today, UPS.
