Decklink + Avid MC 6.0.1 = audio distortion
(have also cross posted to the Avid forum)
Hi folks, in 2 of our edit suites we have Decklink Studio 2’s (about 3 years old) in Mac Pros on OSX 10.6.8 and have recently upgraded to Avid Media Composer 6 (6.0.1) after dropping FCP. Upon updating the Decklink drivers to 9.6 we notice that Avid forces you to use the Decklink I/O and unlike FCP you cant split the audio and video output. So our audio monitoring now has to come off the Decklink output, which is fine except that there is no monitoring level control. So we have had to add a mixer in the line for this purpose.
That’s all ok, but the the bigger issue now seems to be gross audio distortion (of the digital sounding kind) coming from the outputs of the Decklink on any peak over about -15 (house reference is -18). Audio from all programs out the analog outs is crook. We have been digging around in Avid’s settings and Decklinks settings but to no avail so far.
Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated as we are at a bit of a loss. My only alternative seems to be to remove the decklinks to force Avid back to using the internal audio jack.
Thanks – Pat
