    hello

I am curious if anyone else has this combo of components and can speak to the settings they have on a MacPro setup (in my case 12-core)?

As i understand I would be going Displayport out into the Dreamcolor so I guess my second question would be about the quality of that vs. hdmi 1.3 or 1.4 from an AJA HDP2 – is it the same?

Also curious about the most current recommendation for sufficiently replacing the stock ati 5770 card with nvidea for use with Resolve. It seems things are about to be released and newer options will become available no? I hope not to have to spend much more on video cards just to work properly with resolve considering I already by these components.

Lastly, The color space I am used to working in is rec.709 for Broadcast. I have calibrated a dreamcolor with final cut 1080 bars on both an hdp2 as well as hdlink (8bit) but I am also curious as I take on film projects and trailers for projection and dvd what color space to work in.

We are using several Dreamcolors here. They need strictly RGB progressive to work in calibrated mode, that’s what we use the HDP2 for. Ours are calibrated with the HP probe (actually it’s an x-Rite, but tied to their software).

This setup works perfectly well with a Blackmagic SDI card, which can deliver 10 bit (the Dreamcolor is capable of 10 bit). I’m not sure if the Display Port can transport 10 bit, so you may give away some quality.

Calibration with the probe is much more precise than eyeballing. For film we use the DCI simulation, which is not 100%, but close enough (the Dreamcolor has slightly less color space than the expensive monitors normally used for that). For the web we don’t care at all, everybody sees their own colors anyway, since there’s no standard of any kind. You can use Rec. 709 as well, since it’s close to sRGB.

Can’t comment on newer cards, we are happy with our GTX 286.

I believe it’s mentioned in the forums (Peter Chamberlain I think said it) that the HDMI output from the Decklink is YUV. And is it 8-bit? Don’t remember. I’ll do a search.. Only way I think you can get 10-bit is through a SDI-> HDMI converter or the HDLINK.

You will have to get a GeForce GT120 and a Quadro 4800 or Quadro 4000 in order to use Resolve. ATI Radeon is no go.
