I’m trying to get deck control from a Beta SP deck through AVID MC w/ Mojo (analog). From all the research that I have done I was informed to use a Keyspan but not which adapter to use a RS 422 or RS 232 to the deck. Would love to have a clear answer!!!!

    this is a clear answer.
If you are on a MAC – Tripplite Keyspan USA-19HS

    https://www.tripplite.com/en/products/model.cfm?txtSeriesID=518&EID=13384&txtModelID=3914

if you are on a PC, Addenda Electronics RS-2/8. $98 includes all cables. Owner of Addenda is Bruce – call them.

These are the exact products that are used by new AVID systems in the “cable kits”.

All modern VTR’s use RS422 control (I assume you are not on an antique Sony UVW-1400). If you are on an OLD AVID SYSTEM with an old MAC, you should search ebay for a used Keyspan USA-28X. This is not the adaptor being used for new AVID Mac based systems.

I have the Keyspan so all I would need is the RS 422 for the deck then to the Keyspan then to the Mac Tower via USB, right?

    Hi Brent,

For the Mac, you will still need the Data Mate 232 to 422 adapter as the USA-19HS is a USB to 232.

So USB from CPU to USA-19HS to Data Mate to Deck.

The Data Mate from AVID is the Addenda RS-2/8

The Keyspan USA-28X is STILL available on multiple google websites, and this is a USB to RS422 adaptor.

The Addenda RS-USB/4 is a USB to RS422 adaptor that they “claim” works with AVID, without any other adaptors or converters. The connector on the end is a standard 9 pin.

    It’s $68.

I appreciate all the help but I just ran into a big problem. My applications drive took a dive today so now I need to get this issue solved.

    Thanks,

The Keyspan USA-28X is no longer supported with the Mac Leopard OS. Avid reports it not frame accurate. That’s why Avid now ships with the USA-19H and the Data Mate.
