deck connection – firewire
Posted by Michael Mohr on April 2, 2009 at 1:51 amI was wondering if you install a firewire card after you install PPro CS4 would it cause a deck not be recognized as being on line? I just installed a FW card and I already had PPro CS4 loaded and when I try to capture something it never shows the deck as being online. The deck is a Sony DSR20. The computer didn’t have FW before the card install. I am currently unistalling CS4 production premium and plan on reinstalling it. Is there a good chance this will work and if not, can anybody recommend anything else to try?

April 2, 2009 at 1:54 pmIf you connect another FW peripheral, like an external harddrive, does it see that?

Unlikely.
Does any software on your computer recognise your deck?

Thanks for the reply. I don’t have any other firewire devices to test to see if it sees it. When I would hook up the deck and turn it on Found new hardware wizard would start up and load up some drivers and put it in Sound and Audio Devices. I noticed on one of my other machines it get placed in scanner and camera devices. Any way I can force or move it into there?

I tried both deck on and off and I still get device off line. I tried changing the IRQ in the bios to make sure IEEE1394 did not have the same IRQ as my on board audio. The deck keeps shoinwing up in Sound and Audio devices as 1394 DV Camcorder. On my other editing system which has a Matrox RTX2 the deck is in Scanners and cameras.

April 2, 2009 at 4:19 pmNo, do not try to move it.
I repeat: Does any software on your computer recognise the deck? For example, try Windows Movie Maker.

We just loaded movie maker and it was able to capture. PPro still shows the device as being offline.

April 3, 2009 at 2:32 pmDid you try changing the options for your device control in the capture tool?
Go to the CAPTURE. Select the SETTINGS TAB. In the DEVICE CONTROL area make sure that DV/HDV device is selected. Click the OPTIONS button next to that and experiment with the choices there:
Brand : Select your camcorder’s brand
Type: Standard, alternate1, or HDV
Timecode format: Auto, Drop Frame, Non-Drop.If that doesn’t help I would personally uninstall the card and reinstall it in another slot if possible.
Good luck,
Nate

April 14, 2009 at 4:46 pmHi everyone,
Thanks for your input regarding this. Here’s what’s been happing so far and hopefully someone knows how to solve this. We finally got the deck to be seen and placed in the correct place. All it took was switching the Firewire card with the SCSI card in the machine…. go figure. However, one more problem has arose and that is the computer keeps looking for an AV/C tuner driver. I’m pretty sure this has something to do with windows XP. I’m running SP 3. Anyone know how to fix this?

April 14, 2009 at 6:33 pmDoes the manufacturer not provide drivers for their product? You may need to call their tech support to get this completely resolved.
