Dealing with super whites
So we’re working on a hvx-200 project. And obviously I’ve got information above 700mv. When I export QT’s out of the project to use in After Effects(etc…) those programs clip the white @ 100%. Should I be applying a color correct to these clips and pulling down the whites before exporting? Since all the whites go as a range, it seems to makes a smoother transistions than just clipping the max values.
Or is there a better way to deal with super-white when going in and out of effects software?

Are you setting the depth in after effects to use float space (32-bit?). I’m thinking that you need to not be working in 8-bit to preserve super whites. I might be totally off here – but have you given that a shot?

somewhere in AE there’s a setting preference for the footage, change it to REC 709 or HD color space (can’t recall what its called) that might do the trick.

I think that’s the deal from going from YUV to RGB and back when exporting from FCP. How are you exporting and to what codec? Have you pulled those exported clips back in and seen if those are clipped? It could be quicktime as well that’s doing the clipping. It wouldn’t surprise me.
