this is a little out dated but a few years ago there was a show called “dead like me” on showtime, i was wondering if anyone knows how to recreate the effect were the dead walk through the living. if you havnt seen the show, the effect goes like this, the dead look normal but when they walk through the living or try to touch something they go through it and as they go through it they kinda turn into smoke. thanks

You might want to check out the extras on the series DVD box set. Essentially they filmed several passes, one with the dead, one with the living and an empty plate. Then a ton of manual rotoscoping was done and the shots were composited. They show an example on the DVD, where an old man who has died naked and is unable to wear any clothes, he’s walking around the park, walking through people.

Specifically, I think it is the second season disc set. It has a feature called “putting life into death”
