de-flicker fcpx
Posted by Dylan Haley on December 11, 2011 at 6:08 amI have an image that is flickering in my fcp x timeline, even after exporting the project to prores 422. In legacy versions of FCP it was an easy fix, even if I had to resort to a gausian blur, but I’m lost in FCP X. Any suggestions?
Thanks guys.

December 13, 2011 at 12:02 amFlicker? Are you viewing this on an interlaced display? Typically that is the only way to truly see “flicker”.
Can you clarify what you mean by flicker? Also Let us know a little bit more about your workflow. Video format, etc.
If this really is related to interlaced flicker then you are right, use the Gaussian Blur filter. It has separate horiztonal & vertical controls. If you’re really new to FCP X, open the effects browser which or command-5, and then look on the left side of that pane under blur. Or you can type in the search field at the bottom of the pane, “Gaussian’. Then drag it onto a clip. Or select a clip and double click to apply.

December 13, 2011 at 2:30 amThanks Timothy,
I actually figured it out shortly after posting this. It was one of those 13hr edit days and my brain was mush. I’m used to doing HD projects and this was an SD project with a lot of problems with multiple formats, so I just needed to blur one image and I was cutting in FCP X for the first time.
Anyway, thanks again.
BTW, eat some green chili for me! Haven’t been home in quite some time.
Cheers.

December 14, 2011 at 4:48 amSanta Fe county outside of Cedar Crest, but that was a long time ago. Graduated from Manzano HS in 1991. God I miss the food! For red chili, if you ever get a chance, go to the Horseman’s Haven in Santa Fe…unbelievable. At least when I was a kid. I’ve been all over the world since then, and nothing beats New Mexican food, in my opinion.
Thanks again.
