day for night
Posted by Ben Oliver on April 24, 2007 at 1:39 pmHey guys,
I am in need of a good technique to do some day for night. I shot some footage, exposed it normally during the day, but wanted to try and make it look like nighttime, any ideas?

April 24, 2007 at 2:38 pmI’ve got a filter in 55mm which has a good go at it, thing is you can tweak it quite a lot, which is nice, then take it into Motion and played around with the composite modes.
I think magic bullet also had a day for night filter.
As far as free, err…dupe your clip on to video2, color correct top layer, play with the composite modes…give it a go.

April 24, 2007 at 6:17 pmDay for night is a huge issue, it’s not as simple as changing colors. To sell the effect you must carefully plan the shoot. No one ever does that, they want to fix it in post. Watch any DFN sequence and you will be able to see the differences between having a good producer and photographer and having an idiot running the shoot.
You can research DFN on google and find tons of great tips and hints and lots of stuff to know about going into the shoot.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

April 24, 2007 at 6:20 pmwhile I wouldn’t consider myself an idiot, this is somethign I shot for no money, and just want to make it look like nighttime, it doesnt have to be perfect, it’s goign to live on youtube.com at it’s best.
the entire video is going to be black and white, if that makes it any easier.
