Does the Retina support mean it’s no longer necessary to run the 1920×1200-like resolution setting on the MBPr Retina? It’d be nice to be able to step down and not use up all the VRAM for that…

You still need to set the Display setting to More Space for a nice GUI layout. The 1400×900 resolution is too limiting otherwise to show everything properly.

    Great job guys 🙂

Its really nice to see there is so much development , especially for those new formats.
I still have high hopes for a working DV workflow or at least the ability to read the DV encoded AVID MXF files I sent you two weeks ago.

    Stability has improved sooooo much.
I had not a single crash the whole year 🙂

    and this:

still exists for me when upgraded to 9.1 🙁

One makes Prores grading almost impossible, other one makes r3d with render cache almost unwatchable.
Anyway, thanks for the update, I’ll figure out a solution for my problems.

    Hi Timofey,

Could you send logs (captured when you select a clip with such an issue) as well as a project export to davincihelp?

    Regards,

Is the 1920×1200-like resolution still recommended? The whole idea of Retina Display support is that you guys can scale the interface yourself to the size you need, so you don’t have to get the OS to emulate a higher (really lower) resolution display for you. But you might not quite be there yet.

The thing is, in terms of GPU memory, the OS obviously always allocates its buffers for the 2880×1800 screen. But when you use the emulated modes, it allocates an additional buffer of twice the emulated resolution (in the case of 1920×1200, the buffer is 3840×2400), draws the non-retina aware software’s UI into that, and then scales that whole buffer down to 2880×1800.

This obviously eats up GPU memory. I often get out of memory errors or other weird behaviour when using this resolution with Resolve, which is why I usually set everything up for render, and then lower resolution to native and restart Resolve to actually render stuff.

But I’m sure HiDPI displays are something you’re thinking about supporting more completely in the future.

It’s not about being retina aware. We are obviously retina aware and therefore can render to the 3840×2400 screen buffer. The non-aware apps gets pixel doubled, and if you look carefully you will notice this in the text and icons, etc.

Please make sure you are not running any other apps while running Resolve. GPU memory is very limited, and Safari, etc. use a fair amount of it leaving very little for Resolve.
