Hi, I’ve just set up a Resolve workstation in the back of our camera truck for doing grades and best lights on red one MX dailies.

The system is a Mac Pro dual quad 2.66 with a Cubix Expander, Red Rocket, Decklink, GT120, 2x Quadro 4000s, tangent wave and an FSI 24″ lcd for monitoring.

I’m running os X 10.6.8, and have just reinstalled everything to make sure that there were no hidden issues.

As of right now, when I start up the software – with the supplied dongle plugged in – I get a small window with a large X and the test ‘not licensed’. Pressing OK as you might expect closes the program.

The dongle shows up in the system profiler, the light comes on when I plug it in (I’ve tried just about every USB port available) and prior to the reinstall Resolve Lite ran fine on this system.

Am I missing something or is it possible I was shipped a bad dongle? I’ve sent a message to BM support but perhaps someone here can help as well while I’m waiting to hear back, or has even experienced the same issue.

    Any insight would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

There are two types of dongles – Linux and Mac. Please make sure you have received the correct one.

If it still doesn’t work, you might need to get a replacement dongle.

Did this dongle ever work before, or is this a new dongle which is not working?

    Regards,
    Rohit

This is a brand new dongle – I just opened the shrink wrap on the DVD
case today. Is there a visual difference between the Linux and Mac
dongles? I am quite sure I ordered a mac version of the software – the DVD included works with my mac pro.

What is the process for replacing dongles?

I used to have my dongle plugged into a hub. Since Version 8 it has to be directly in the tower, or
i get a “no licence” error.

I have the dongle plugged into the rear USB ports at the moment, but I’ve also tried the front ones as well. I had a closer look at it, it’s definitely a Resolve MAC dongle.

Hey, I wanted to update anyone who might be having the same issue – I contacted blackmagic support as soon as they opened, explained the steps I had taken and they are now advance shipping a replacement dongle. It appears something was wrong with mine and that is in fact the cause of this issue.

    Thanks!
