Dataton Watchout 4 with newer Capture Cards & Systems Manager advice please

Hi all,
Please would anyone with experience of using the newer range of capture cards for Dataton Watchout 4 share their experiences. Being old school I’ve been happily using Datapath cards but we are proposing a new set of WO PCs and associated higher resolution capture cards.

Stability of cards is essential (OBV) as its a live environment.

Also how has the new “Systems Manager” software held up in the fixed install world? I’ve had a fixed install enquiry and looking at the new systems manager I am concerned about the learning curve required to create a menu for the client to control the various shows on the timeline. Any advice most appreciated.

This would be a great question for Dataton’s Showroom mailing list — you’ll reach a lot more hands-on WATCHOUT users.

I have posted on the WO forum too but I had to make my first post here just to get me started.

AND besides you seem to have a far more interesting line of chat about WO specific movie encoding than on the Showroom forum.

I’m glad you’ve found the information here useful!

Personally, I’ve only used the Datapath cards, but it seems a lot of users are working with Blackmagic Intensity cards now. They only accept standard video resolutions like 720p and 1080p, though — so graphics resolutions like 1024×768 cannot be used.

I haven’t touched the new Systems Manager software yet myself, either.

To correct myself on this 1080p point, the Intensity Pro only supports 1080p23.98 or 1080p24. It does not support 25, 29.97, 30, or 60 progressive. It does support 1080i50 and 1080i59.94.
