I recently upgraded the Mac running CatDV Server to OS X 10.9.5 and have been unable to restore my backed up database. I performed a clean install of Cat DV Server, but can’t get it to import. I get the following error: 2002 (HY000): Can’t connect to local MySQL server through socket ‘/tmp/mysql.sock’ (2).

    OS X 10.9.5
    CatDV Server 6.9.4
    CatDV Pro 11.0.3
    MySQL 5.7.11

It sounds like MySQL just isn’t running? If you go to the MySQL control panel (in System Preferences) does it show MySQL as running?

If it’s not that is then I would just contact support by emailing support@squarebox.com.

Thanks John. Seems like that is the issue. For some reason it won’t start. Scouring forums for a solve… trying reboots, reinstalls, and permissions.

Did you install the right MySQL version for your Mac OS version? Apple have changed the way daemons (background services like MySQL) get launched and there are definitely issues with certain versions of MySQL on certain versions of Mac OS. I’d probably update to the latest Mac OS and the latest MySQL and see if that fixes it.

Thanks John. You’re probably right on that one. I’ll give that a shot, but unfortunately it’ll be a long process due to some software dependencies that are only licensed for 10.9.5. I’ll need to purchase the upgrades along with updated OS and MySQL in order to have a functional system again.

There is definitely a MySQL 5.7 install for 10.9, so it should be possible to get it working. You might need to manually set up a LaunchDaemon entry as described here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/26476391/how-to-auto-load-mysql-on-startup-on-osx-yosemite, and its possible the status in the control panel won’t be right, but it should be possible to get it to work.

Excellent. Thanks John. Trying those steps now.
